This year, CU Hawaii Federal Credit Union proudly celebrates 70 years of serving our members and strengthening our Big Island community.

Since 1955, our story has been rooted in one simple belief: when people come together with purpose, anything is possible.

Where It All Began

CU Hawaii’s journey started in May 1955, when 10 Hilo businessmen came together to create the Big Island Businessmen’s Federal Credit Union. Their shared goal was to provide better financial opportunities and support for the local community.

As the credit union grew, so did its vision. Expanding beyond its original membership, the organization became a community credit union and later evolved into JCC Federal Credit Union. In June 2000, our name changed once more—reflecting both our growth and our commitment to the people we serve—becoming CU Hawaii Federal Credit Union.

Growing with Our Community

Over the past seven decades, CU Hawaii has grown alongside Hawai?i Island. What began as a small group of members has evolved into a trusted financial partner for over 30,000 members.

As a not-for-profit, federally insured financial institution, we are owned by our members—and everything we do is driven by their success. Today, we proudly serve communities across the island with branches in:

We also invest in the next generation through our Student Credit Union branches at Wai?kea High School, Kea?au High School, and P?hoa High & Intermediate School—helping young people build strong financial futures.
